2024 Ted Lofto Scholarship Recipient
CPO2 Aashi Chaudhary
RCSCC John Travers Cornwell, VC
CPO2 Aashi Chaudhary plans to attend the University of Manitoba’s Kinesiology Recreational Management program. Her career dream is to make a real difference in people's lives, supporting those who need it most. She chose Recreational Management to get hands-on experience through various field placements, so she can figure out where she can make the biggest impact.
Aashi is an extremely accomplished Cadet participating fully in the Cadet program. Some of her many achievements are Medal of Excellence awardee, most proficient PO2, most improved Guardsman, and Quadra Cadet of the Week. She has participated in the Regional Regatta on two occasions, been appointed Guard commander, and acted as Senior Flag Party Escort for the Corps’ 100th Anniversary Freedom of the City Ceremony. She has qualified to be a SCOP (PCOC) instructor and a CAN Sail 1 and 2 instructor. She’s completed level 3 Communications, CAN Sail 1, 2, 3 and 4, Cadet Sail 1 and 2, First Aid, Safety Boat Operator, Personal Pleasure Craft Operator, Radio Communications, and Power Boat Operator course.
All the school, community and Cadet activities Aashi has participated in are far too numerous to list here; to quote from her application “I have volunteered at may different places to the point where I lose count.” Some of those include volunteering at school movie and game nights, pep rallies, and fundraisers; community fundraisers, Kids Quest summer camp, etc. On top of that, she has participated in track and field, basketball, volleyball, badminton, cross country, competitive dance and swimming to mention a few of her physical activities. She speaks four languages fluently and plays clarinet, alto sax, drums, and piano (piano self-taught).
Over her years with Cadets, Aashi honed her abilities to manage and mentor her peers effectively. As Guard Commander she learned to lead by example, ensure discipline and cohesion to develop an effective team. As a sail instructor she was able to teach the Cadets to sail while having fun and at the same time learning valuable skills. Her leadership skills are characterized by active participation and a commitment to being a positive role model.
